Christian Therapy

Christian Therapy is a way to improve your mental health while incorporating your Christian faith with effective strategies and techniques. I would love to help you to get more out of your life and help you overcome the struggles you are attending therapy for.

How is Christian Therapy Different from Your Secular Options?

Christian therapy is different because we add the healing power we have from God as Christians to the effective strategies from secular approaches. We incorporate your personal faith to bring you encouragement and comfort as you explore your trauma or other issues. By including your faith and the power of your faith in therapy, it can become a more personal and uplifting experience that propels you towards God’s purpose in your life.

You are in control of how much you want your Christian faith to enter into the therapy process. I am flexible with how you want to incorporate your faith into therapy.

Is Christian Therapy Right for You?

Therapy that incorporates your Christian faith may be right for you if:

  • You want to address beliefs that are getting in the way of having a closer relationship with God?
  • Your past trauma or neglect are creating barriers that prevent you from experiencing the full love and grace of God?
  • You want your Christian faith to be an active part of the healing process and the tools used to heal

Who I Am As a Christian Therapist

I strive to be Christ-like, speaking from a Bible-based faith. I feel that God led me to this place so I can bring healing to His children through the therapeutic skills and techniques that I have learned along the way. He has put things on my heart, filled me with His love and grace, and blessed me with the Holy Spirit to guide me.

I combine effective, evidence-based psychotherapeutic techniques with the promises we have as God’s children. Coming from a desire to help you heal and grow, I apply what I have learned from my relationship with Him and the knowledge He has blessed me with to what I do in therapy.

Some of the Ways We Can Incorporate Your Christian Faith Into Therapy and Your Healing Journey

  • How to use prayer as mindfulness
  • How to incorporate God’s promises to you into your healing process
  • How to use God’s promises to break free of the chains holding you back (harsh self-criticism, perfectionism, etc.)
  • How to find love and acceptance for yourself by focusing how much God loves you and accepts you
  • Using your faith as a resource to help you cope when triggered

How I Combine Trauma Modalities and Techniques with Christian Faith

EMDR

EMDR helps your brain and body process memories, thoughts, and symptoms that interfere with your natural healing process. It is an evidence-based treatment for PTSD and has been effective for various types of trauma-related conditions, including nightmares and chronic pain. EMDR works by integrating what is in your brain, including your faith. There are multiple ways that your Christian faith can be incorporated into EMDR.

I have seen powerful healing experiences when a client’s trauma is integrated with the love God has for them and how much peace they can feel from experiencing that integration.

Flash Technique

The Flash Technique needs a positive-engaging focus (PEF) to desensitize and process traumatic memories. This PEF can be anything that is not connected to your trauma and is distracting enough to pull your attention away from the memory you are trying to process. We can incorporate different Christian activities such as singing along with your favourite hymn or worship song, describing important faith moments or scriptures, and what your faith means to you.

Building Strengths and the Person You Are

When we bring your Christian faith into the therapeutic process, we can anchor your belonging in the world with the promises we have from God as a child of God. This can help reduce symptoms of low self-confidence and self-esteem.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness can be a powerful tool for both your faith and mental health. It can open you up to listening to His voice and giving you a break from the chaos in your life. There are many examples of mindfulness and meditation in the Bible.
